Hello Reader,
As we close the chapter on 2025, this year-end edition of GH Pulse reflects on a transformative period for digital commerce across India and GCC.
2025 has been a year where shifting consumer behaviours, the rise of AI-driven experiences, and a more connected, omnichannel landscape have defined how brands approach the market. From the festive boom to the growing integration of AI, it’s been clear that the future belongs to brands that can seamlessly blend discovery, experience, and commerce in an always-on world.
Throughout the year, retail has evolved at lightning speed. Consumer intent has become more refined, with over 80% of shoppers researching online before making in-store purchases, and social proof driving decisions across categories. The festive season expanded well beyond Diwali, with events like Black Friday and Christmas shaping extended demand cycles, while India’s eCommerce growth surged, fueled by a growing D2C ecosystem, a rise in paid-user bases, and robust government support for MSMEs and more. Meanwhile, the GCC region experienced elevated AOVs, a greater demand for premium categories, and the rise of BNPL adoption. The hybrid blend of digital-first journeys in malls, click-and-collect, and in-mall delivery reshaped the retail landscape marvellously.
Looking toward 2026, India and GCC’s D2C and marketplace growth will be defined by commerce readiness rather than sheer traffic. Brands will need to shift from fragmented tech stacks to unified digital frameworks with a focus on performance-driven platforms, CRO-optimized UX, and AI-powered orchestration to drive acquisition, retention, and fulfillment. Marketplaces will remain crucial growth engines, but brands will need to differentiate through owned channels that build loyalty and long-term value.
As consumer preferences evolve, the growth of quick-commerce dark stores will shift to tier-2 and smaller towns. The Indian consumer electronics sector is set to emerge as a global leader, while India’s consumer durables market is poised for massive scale, driven by aspirational rural regions and increased access to consumer finance. In the ever-changing world of retail marketplaces, India and GCC will reward brands that view digital commerce as a growth ecosystem rather than just a sales channel. At GreenHonchos, this is the shift we continue to track, decode, and enable as brands prepare for the next phase of scalable, sustainable retail growth.
